KVATRNA BABA, THE FIERCE DIETY OF REST starts at 1pm PST on Saturday, 10/23!

How are you sinking in to the dark season's call for rest, revitalization, and nourishment? Autumn is a time to hone in, breathe deep, and remember your body's fiercest need: rest. Rest, repair and creation cycles are inherent within us all, though we don't always honor them. This is why these cycles are under the domain of the ferocious Slovenian deity, Kvatrna Baba. When we hold the days devoted to her sacred, we hold rest sacred.

In this workshop, led by Rachel Budde of Fat & The Moon, we will explore this fierce entity, and uncover her wisdom within our own bodies. This workshop will include rich discussion and exploration of herbs for rest appropriate for the transition of the seasons. We will cover practices of rest in order to open the doorways to the liminal.

Baba is the ultimate granny, and trickster, older than the hills—because she is the hills. She is beyond good and evil, she is not the warm and fuzzy earth mother— though at times she is the deepest source of nourishment.

At other times, she is the most destructive force one can fathom. Though, in both cases, her purpose is Life. She is the energy of existence, which finds myriad cyclical forms.

The Babas (because there are many) embody the ancient, imminent and wise feminine energies of the Natural world. They embed the sacred into the practical and distill truisms like, ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’. The Babas go way back with humankind. Word is they were there at the beginning; teaching us the skills of food cultivation, spinning and weaving, and of course, herbal medicine.
