October 31 Full Moon in
Taurus
Happy Halloween, and blessed Samhain! This is the time of the season when we learn to make friends with what frightens us. Some of us may even take on our fears in costume form, becoming better friends with our demons in new and creative ways. After all, this Full Moon in
Taurus falls on the perfect moment of the year to do so. To-the-point Taurus challenges us to take a good hard look at our shadow selves and do some sorting. Find the virtues that we may be ignoring for the sake of social standards. Choose what to recycle, and what to compost. Perhaps we've carried favored traits and habits out of necessary survival. These are often emergency salves which we've been overusing for far longer than originally intended.
They serve us, until they don't. We are each our own complex beings, full of endless possibilities and choose-your-own-adventures. How we navigate the stories of our lives is in our own hands, and Taurus knows it even when we forget, prodding us us with their tough-love-truth-bomb horns. What we are told to do, how to perform, and what makes us acceptable are often stories given to us by others. As our ancestors of blood and culture support and hold us during this season, we are
given an extra boost of strength, and power to listen to ourselves for exactly who we are here and now.

THE HIEROPHANT + SAMHAIN + ANCESTORS
The Hierophant card represents an established set of spiritual values and beliefs, and is often associated with formal religion or other formal doctrines. This major arcana card asks us to build our foundations first before choosing to dive into your own belief systems (the energy associated with the next card, The Lovers in the major arcana.) This card encourages us to connect with our elders, our guides, and our teachers - someone who can help
nurture your understanding or help you learn and honor traditions.
Use the combined energy of Samhain + The Hierophant to connect to your ancestors. Cook a meal that they might have cooked, listen to music or an audiobook that connects you to your history, light a candle in their honor, or journal down a family story with your morning pages. You are your ancestors wildest dreams, so feel encouraged to go back as far as you need to feel celebrated in all your glory. Sometimes the generations we can remember
have been influenced by oppression, and we need to go back farther to find those ancestors who celebrate us in all our Non-Binary, Queer, and more glory!
This card is also ruled by Taurus, a sign ruled by the Earth. Mother Nature is an ancestor to all of us, so if there are no humans you feel connected to call on, try a nature meditation or gratitude practice. The Hierophant is about connecting with others and ourselves in a way that prompts further growth.
2021 is the year of the Hierophant, snag a supportive gift set for yourself!
Happy Full Moon, witch,
ROSE FLOWER ALLY
The Queen of the Flowers, Roses have been cultivated for over 5,000 years. The rose is part of many folk tales, including tales from Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. In Greek mythology, the sea foam that dripped off Aphrodite as she rose from the sea turned into white roses - dreamy! With soft petals and sharp thorns, Rose Magic reminds us that boundaries are healthy to protect our soft hearts. Use roses to call in self love, heart healing
medicine, and beauty. Add dried rose to your Taurus altar, a magical bath, or steep rose petals for a self-love tea.

CHAI SPICE APPLE CRISP
It's Sahmin, Halloween, and a Full Moon in Taurus - we have to make a dessert! The Goddess is just asking for a delicious fall treat with all these magical elements falling on the same night! Pop this in the oven before starting a classic Halloween flick (we're partial to Hocus Pocus here at Seagrape, but Practical Magic is a close second) and let the warm aroma of cinnamon spice, apple, and vanilla fill the air as you snuggle up under a blanket
with your family, loved ones, or sweet familiars. This recipe was adapted from the Any Fruit Crisp by Dan Pelosi.
Apples are a traditional Sahmin food, and Taurus is all about sweet comforts and finding pleasure - so this apple crisp is not only a delicious treat but a spell as well! Leave out a small serving as an offering and gift for your ancestors on this night where the veil is thin.
Ingredients:
Topping: 1 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup regular sugar, 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1 cup oatmeal, 1 stick butter, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon nutmeg, 1 teaspoon clove, 1/2 teaspoon cardamom, 1/2 teaspoon ginger, 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, pinch of salt. You can mix up the spice blend here to be whatever your preference is, and if you don't have these spices you can always use a heaping tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice. (You can sub gluten
free 1:1 flour, and any vegan butter here.)
Filling: zest of 1 lemon, juice of 1 lemon 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, peeled and sliced apple - a mix of green and red is really yummy! (you will need enough to fill whatever baking dish your working with)
To make:
1. Combine all filling ingredients, and preheat oven to 350*
2. Combine all topping ingredients but the butter. Once dry ingredients are well mixed, chop your butter up into small squares and slowly incorporate it into the rest of the mixture with your hands. You want it to have a slightly sandy texture and lumps are definitely ok here.
3. Add fruit mixture to a baking dish, and form small-medium sized balls with your hands of the topping mixture. Place topping-balls over fruit, and bake your crisp for 1 hour - or until the fruit is tender and the topping is golden brown. Let rest for 15-20 min before serving.
4. Top with vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
