We're thinking of you all and hoping you're taking good care. Here are some easy DIY herbal remedies for stress, anxiety, boosting the immune system, and tending to your lungs:
Breathe easy salve and oil:
- 1/2 cup of oil like coconut, jojoba or olive
- 1 Tbsp of beeswax (depending on consistency you like)
- 1 Tbsp of shea or cocoa butter
- 20 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- 20 drops fir (or rosemary) essential oil
- 20 drops peppermint (or lavender) essential oil
Melt together in a double boiler and stir to combine. Pour mixture into a clean container and apply to chest and around nose to help you breathe easier. Combine just the essential oil blend into 1 cup of oil (any kind you want to use on your skin) to make an easy body oil for a soothing, lung opening massage.
Eucalyptus shower steam:
- 1/2 cup corn starch
- 1 3/4 cup baking soda
- 1 tablespoon essential oils (use recipe above or just eucalyptus oil)
- 4 tablespoons water
Combine dry ingredients with essential oil, stir in water slowly until combined. Form steamers into tablespoon sized balls or use moulds if you have them. Set them on parchment to dry for 24 hours before using. To use simply place a ball in the shower (out of direct stream) and let the steam release the essential oils slowly as you shower for a lung soothing experience. If you don't have the above ingredients simply put 1-3 drops of pure
essential oil on a small dish in the shower (out of direct stream) and let the steam diffuse it for you.
Lung soothing steam:
Make a strong tea using dry or fresh rosemary, cedar wood, peppermint, fir, thyme, or oregano by pouring boiling water over the herbs. Place a towel over your head and hold your face (safely) over the steam for 10-15 minutes and breathe slowly. The herbs will help soothe irritated lungs and aid anxiety.
Herbal tea for irritated lungs:
Combine and one or all of the following herbs into a lung soothing tea:
chamomile- anti-inflammatory and relaxing
peppermint- cooling and moistening
cedar wood- aids in dry coughs and respiratory conditions
thyme- soothes cough
licorice- anti-inflammatory, soothes throat
Herbal tea for stress and anxiety:
1 part rose
1/2 part lavender
1 part chamomile
1 part lemon balm
Anxiety-free essential oil diffuser blend:
10 drops lavender
10 drops lemon
5 drops clary sage
10 drops bergamot
3 drops rose or 1 drop rose geranium
