New Moon in Leo August 18th,
2020
Can you feel it? A new cycle has *clicked* into place. There is no repetition, but a continuation of learning and understanding as we rotate through our own timelines. Everything is cyclical. The notion of linearity is a more modern and rigid approach - as if we've simply lost
our chance to fill our grocery cart while walking through the isles. Life is in fact a garden. Things come, things go - then they return again. The shape and color and texture may be different, but then again, so are we.
This New Moon in Leo asks us to reevaluate our approach to the plentiful nature of our own worthiness and strength. The sky is dark, overtaken by the open and grinning jaws of the divine lion. As we peer into its starry abyss, we are given the chance to challenge our own idea of strength - to ask a little more, stretch a little deeper, roar a little louder. This wild feline will not hurt us. It recognizes us as kin, witnessing and
honoring the being that we are. We know this and yet we are timid in its presence. Could it be that we ourselves fear the same part that this New Moon in Leo praises? It's not always easy to reconcile, but we have forsaken parts of our strength, bending it into shapes it never wanted to take. This moon, completely free of guilt or frustration, meets us with compassion and understanding. Existing in our unique strengths has at times felt embarrassing, silly, or foolish.
But acting a fool is often where hope begins. Remember, without trying there is no accomplishment or growth - and without rest, there is far less room to try. Give yourself the time to really feel that cyclical necessity. Banish the notion of failure. If you try again, the chance remains. Always. The lion smiles, revealing a silly side to its often known statuesque self. We are free to smile back, make faces, and share in a moment of brassy laughter knowing that the qualities we love
about ourselves, those that are unique to us and give us our power, are so very needed in the world.
This is a potent time to begin dreaming up new personal visions. How do you see yourself strengthening in September? In winter? Take time to collage or paint your visions for the next few months. Once you've created a bright and colorful visual for yourself, hang it somewhere you will often see - the fridge, above your bookshelf, or on an altar. Let it marinate and gather strength right along with you as the moon waxes full again.

LEO + STRENGTH
The tarot card associated with Leo is the Strength card. A major arcana card, Strength tells us about a major life lesson - finding strength in vulnerability. This card shows us that the way to tame our inner ferocity is not with strict or harsh lessons, but with a soft hand. When we learn to work with our lions - our insecurities, fears,
trauma - we can actually tame them and they truly aren't so scary. We all have aspects of ourselves that we're working on, but being vulnerable, tender, and soft with these aspects allows us to be strengthened by them.

CHAMOMILE PLANT ALLY
Abundant, bright, and incredibly versatile - chamomile is a powerful plant ally. Chamomile has been used for centuries. There is evidence that ancient civilizations used this plant often in association it with the Sun Gods. Chamomile is particularly useful for clearing energies and inviting in protection. Try adding fresh chamomile to a protective New Moon bath or altar. You can also use dried Chamomile in teas, promoting digestion as
well as enhancing sleep. Try Chamomile tea before bed, or during a night time ritual to promote relaxation.

NEW MOON BATH RITUAL
New Moon magic is perfect for releasing anything that is holding you back. This bath ritual is crafted to clear your energy, leaving you feeling fresh and ready to welcome in abundance, gratitude, and love. For this bath, you will need at least one black and white stone or gem, a candle, and whatever bath goodies you prefer.
Start by filling a tub (or foot soak!) with warm water, and your bath treats - coconut milk for skin softening, and rose petals for self love would be especially nice here. Set your white stone on your bath altar, and hold the black stone in your hand. Take a few deep breaths, and visualize letting go of anything that is currently holding you back. Visualize that energy flowing into the stone. Set the stone on your altar, and climb into your bath.
Take the white stone in your hand, and visualize everything that you are hoping to manifest in your life. Let your imagination run wild!
When you are done soaking, place the black stone in the bath as the water runs out and picture all those energies you let go flowing down the drain (but keep a hand on it if you're worried it will go down the drain!) to clear the stone. Keep both stones with you or on your altar as a reminder of shadow and light.
