Full Moon October 13th in Aries
Here we are solidly in the time of Autumn, thinning of the veil, and burrowing underground both physically and metaphorically. This month, celebrate a rooting down and turning the focus inward. It can be a wonderful time to hole up for an evening of
creativity and following your own passions with the Aries energy of this Full Moon. Let the Aries energy of fieriness, warmth, and drive lead you in new and creative directions when facing reoccurring challenges and ghosts that won't take a hint.
In setting those roots, traditionally October has been a time of reconnecting with our lineages, ancestors, and Spirit. Another way to focus energies inward might be to dive into researching family traditions, rituals, and heritage - what are your family and your peoples' ways of expressing gratitude and cultivating magic?
Still a time of harvest, a walk in your neighborhood provides an opportunity to take in the changing colors of the plant life or a mini-adventure to an apple orchard to enjoy the fruits of this season. I like to make a plate for my ancestors with the abundance of Fall produce for my ancestors at mealtime.

Creating a Pocket Size Altar
A pocket altar could be an accessible way to introduce friends who are interested in building an altar, but want to start small. Also practical for those who have altars at home, but want something portable to take with when they travel to work, on vacation, or a roadtrip. When building an altar, know that each will be different and unique to you. Your mini-altar should contain the items that are meaningful to you and the magical tools you want to practice with. Some
items to consider:
- A small container that has a clasp, like an Altoids tin
- Tea light candles or birthday candles (available in so many colors!). Use a metal or ceramic bed as a candle holder.
- If you work with plants, you might include a sprig of rosemary, lavender flower, yarrow flower, or a leaf of sage. Hemlock trees have adorable, small pinecones that look like rosebuds. Find them fallen on a hike around this time of year.
Adding a picture, small mirror, or quote on the inside of the lid is a fun way to decorate and utilize limited space. Wrap all items in a piece of cloth to help keep them from rattling around. This could be a little altar cloth, when all is unpacked and set up, too.

Lodestone
Lodestone has a long history with divination and wayfaring. An Olmec artifact, a shaped and grooved magnetic bar, might be the earliest known compass. In 2nd century BC, Chinese geomancers found that lodestone could be used to make a south pointing spoon for earth divination. Lodestones natural attraction of iron and magnetic properties make it well known as a stone of attraction and invitation. Often used in spells to increase wealth, money, and
abundance. It's long time use as a compass makes it the perfect ally for making big life decisions where extra guidance is desired. Lodestone does ask something in return, to be feed iron whilst in use on your altar and to be recharged during lightening storms

Muscle Relaxer Bath
A bath is perfect medicine after an arduous hike or other physical activity. The warm water stimulates blood flow, helping to ease stiffness and soreness in muscles and joints. For even more benefit, epsom salts add magnesium, which is absorbed through skin. Magnesium helps muscles to relax and while it’s a trace
mineral, not having enough can be a cause for muscle spasms.
A common garden and tea herb, chamomile, is a powerful anti-inflammatory and mild anesthetic for muscular pain, specifically smooth muscles. Chamomile increases muscle relaxing amino acids such as glycine.
Recipe:
1c epsom salt
1T dried chamomile flowers (consider grinding up, so they won’t clog tub)
5 drops of chamomile essential oil
2 drops of lavender essential oil
