Journaling Prompts for tomorrow's New Moon in Cancer
The crab naturally thrives in both land and
water - this new moon asks us to be adaptable, making ourselves at home no matter the environment. Ruled by the moon, this New Moon in Cancer at the height of Cancer season cannot be mistaken - this is an invitation to see ourselves reflected in this lunar body.
Our emotions can run high and are amplified by the dark mirror of the new moon. This
is a rich and bountiful opportunity to respectfully identify our feelings, and witness them for what they are. Just as the full moon demands to be seen, glowing through the vastness of the world in a given moment, the new moon demands us to see ourselves; to recognize that the same bright lunar glow that is reflected by the moon exists first within us all.
There is space for a fresh beginning here - just remember that you don't have to do everything at once, or with haste. As the moon rebirths itself, nestled in the darkness of a twinkling sky, so does your current chapter of life. Pour slowly and intentionally. A great way to put these strengths into practice is through somatic sensory awareness, joining together the tenacity of the body with the magic of the mind. Breathe into your own being. With each
breath, notice yourself. Reflect on all that you are, while gently stretching into these aspects of being. If in a breath you happen to notice your ribcage flexing open, bend slightly from one side to the next, making a little more space for the moment. Flex your toes back, flare your nostrils, or stretch out your fingers. Feel how strong even the smallest parts of you can be, simply by activating them. Introduce intention to these movements, whether it be while opening a door, scratching your
arm, lifting your body, or washing dishes. These mundane moments are where the richest magical sparks reside.
The moon shifts and changes without judgement - always herself without a doubt, despite the ebbs and flows. What judgements can you release about yourself this lunar cycle? How can you embrace the ebbs and flows?
Cancer Season Journal Ritual
This cycle, both the Sun and the Moon land themselves in the watery depths of Cancer Season. A sign that prioritizes comfort, nurturing and
intuition, this lunation cycle asks for softness. Take some time this season to be gentle with yourself, and reflect on the grace and ferocity of your body and emotions.
Begin your ritual by lighting a candle, and setting out a small dish or cup of water. Anoint yourself with a sacred oil, or burn some clearing herbs. Take a few deep
breaths, and perhaps a few sips of calming tea. Dim your lights, and settle into a meditative space. When you feel calm, open your journal and free write with this prompt:
Think about the relationship between your visible self (your body) and your invisible self (your personality, character, likes and dislikes). How do you envision it?
What can you do to feel more at home in this relationship?
As you journal, breathe through any feelings that come up. Notice where your feelings live in your body, and be sure to jot that down too. When you are done writing, take a few deep big belly breathes and speak some affirmations of self love aloud.
